Mr. Dennis R. Chamness

Funeral services for Mr. Dennis Reagan Chamness, 76, of Carthage, Texas, will be held at 10:00 a.m. on Monday, June 15, 2026, at Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Bro. Dale Gary and Bro. Joe Cox officiating. Interment will follow at Langley Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends during visitation from 5:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Sunday evening at the funeral home. Dennis Reagan Chamness was born on April 2, 1950, in Henderson, Texas, and passed away at his home in Carthage on June 8, 2026. He was one of four sons born to Roy Bernice Chamness and Alice Marie Rhiddlehoover Chamness. Dennis was raised in Carthage and graduated with the Carthage High School Bulldog Class of 1968. On January 11, 1974, he married the love of his life, Janet Sue Heard. Together they shared 32 years of marriage before Janet's passing in 2006. A hardworking and dedicated man, Dennis spent his career in the oil field, working as both a mechanic and pumper until his retirement. He was a faithful member of Grand Bluff Baptist Church and found great joy in tending his cattle, spending time outdoors, and sharing life with his family and friends. Dennis was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Janet Sue Chamness; his parents, Roy Bernice and Alice Marie Chamness; his brother, Bishop Ben Chamness; and his sister-in-law, Joyce Chamness. Left to cherish his memory are his children: John Chamness and wife Mindy of DeBerry, Andy Chamness and wife Ashley of Beckville, and Amanda Booth and husband Justin of Carthage. He is also survived by his brothers, James Chamness of Lufkin and Clyde Chamness, Sr. of Carthage; his sister-in-law, Joye Chamness of Austin; and his cherished grandchildren, McKayla, McKinna, Trace, McKinleigh, McKneleigh, Kiptyn, Reagan, Brody, and Baylor. He also leaves behind numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members, and a host of dear friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Payton Chamness, Evan Chamness, Trace Chamness, Brody Booth, Baylor Booth, and Kiptyn Morgan. Dennis will be remembered for his strong work ethic, steadfast faith, love for his family, and the quiet kindness he extended to all who knew him.
