Mrs. Donna Courtney

Heaven gained its most fierce prayer warrior and most gentle heart on June 4th, 2025, when Donna Sue Courtney, known to many as "Nana", danced her way into eternity and the welcoming arms of Jesus. Born September 4, 1954, the daughter of Harold Dean Stewart and Ruby Alice Stewart, Donna didn’t just live a life—she poured hers into everyone around her. She was the matriarch of a beautiful, sprawling family, strong and generations deep. She had 9 children, one of which awaited her in Heaven waiting for her loving squeeze - Casey Stewart Courtney. Somehow, with the wisdom of Solomon and the patience of Job, she made each of her children feel like she loved them uniquely. She parented with strength, spoke with grace, and taught by example that “Don’t sweat the small stuff!” was more than a phrase—it was a way of life. Faith was her compass. Prayer was her language. And generosity? Her generosity was just one of the ways she expressed gratitude for the Lord’s blessings in her life. That was her legacy. She kept her prayer list open to anyone, helping others in anyway she was capable, and her heart never once closed its doors. She loved deeply. She laughed easily. She forgave freely. And when she hugged you, you felt like you were home. Those left to carry her light include her ever loving and devoted husband, Karlos Courtney, her children - Shannon, Chris, Shane, Chance, Chad, Cody, Chase (Bubba), and Dena who are not just survivors of her love but products of it, and her many grandchildren who knew the safest place in the world was right beside their Nana. She is also survived by her sisters Mary, Sandra, Shirley, and her brother Dean; Karlos’ sisters, Twila, Jo, Tonga, Maria, and his brother Phillip as well as a multitude of nieces and nephews, all of which she loved very much. She was preceded in death by her baby boy Casey, Papaw, Granny Ruby, Papaw Courtney and Granny Yvonne, Vonda, Johnny, Cherri. But her legacy? It’s loud. It’s bright. And it’s eternal. Her life was a sermon. Her love, a symphony. The best we can do to continue her legacy is to truly "Love Like Nana!". A celebration of her life will be held on Sunday, June 15th at 1:00 PM, at the family home: 4579 County Road 430, Joaquin, TX 75954. Come with your hearts full, your memories ready, and your love shining—just the way she would’ve wanted it. In lieu of flowers, if you wish, please bring a Bible in her honor. Let’s keep her light shining bright and fill the world with the Word she so cherished.
