Elsie Baker

Funeral services for Mrs. Elsie Baker, 86 of the Deadwood Community of Panola County will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, June 20, 2011 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. John Wiles and Rev. Tommy Speights officiating. Burial will follow in Adams Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Sunday evening from 6-8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Baker left her earthly home to claim her new home and body in heaven Friday, June 17, 2011 in Carthage. She is now walking the streets of gold with her family who have gone on before her and taking her place at Jesus’ feet. Mrs. Elsie Pauline Farmer Baker was born October 12, 1924 in Panola County to the marriage of John and Lettie Mae Harrison Farmer and lived in Panola County all of her life. Elsie met and later married Garvin Baker on October 4, 1942 and celebrated 68 years together. Mrs. Baker loved playing dominoes, fishing, sewing, crocheting and listening to music. Elsie worked in retail sales for Gibson’s for many years and was a member of the Deadwood United Pentecostal Church. She is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Debbie Baker Gage, brothers, Earl, Luke, Nelson, Raymond “Pea Vine” Farmer, sisters, Lorene Andrews, Winnie May Carter, Hallie May Bagley, Maurine “Tootie” Boyd and Reba Jean Laird. Mrs. Baker is survived by her loving husband, Garvin Baker; sons Weldon Baker and wife Rebecca, Dale Baker and wife Sara, Billy Ray Baker and wife Deborah; son-in-law, Joe Gage; grandchildren, Jamey Baker and wife Sharon, Phillip Baker and wife Holly, Scotty Baker and wife Becky, Chance Baker, Joseph Baker, Josh Baker and wife Jennifer, Wayne Baker and wife Brandi, Sherry Cook and husband Ron, Brandy Dawson and husband Mark, Patrick Gage and wife Paula, Shawna Colbert, Shalon Davis and husband Shane; twenty-one great grandchildren, one great, great grandson, sister, Marie Farmer Baker; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be her grandsons, Wayne Baker, Jamey Baker, Phillip Baker, Joseph Baker, Patrick Gage, Scotty Baker, Joshua Baker and Chance Baker. Honorary Pallbearers will be Edward Laird, Chase Dawson and Colby Baker. The family request that donations be made to Adams Cemetery Association, 7632 FM 31 S, Carthage, Texas or to the Deadwood United Pentecostal Church.
