Grace Magness

Funeral services for Mrs. Grace Magness, 96, of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Thursday, March 29, 2012 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Rodger Cole and Rev. Brian Branham officiating. Burial will follow in the Antioch Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Wednesday night at the funeral home. Mrs. Magness died, March 26, 2012 in Carthage, Texas. Mrs. Grace Irene Smith Magness was born January 8, 1916 in Fulton County, Georgia. Grace was one of three daughters born to the marriage of Rev. Starling Minor and Alma Nations Smith. She was raised and attended rural Georgia schools later marrying Herman Leroy Magness September 16, 1939 in Polk County Georgia. They celebrated 52 years of marriage. Grace and Roy moved to Texas in 1950 raising their daughter Linda and son William Larry. She worked to become a L.V.N. and served as a pediatric nurse at Methodist Hospital in Dallas. Her move to Carthage lead her to the Leisure Lodge Nursing Home. She was a member of the Antioch Baptist Church where she taught Sunday school for many years. Grace set the Christian example for her family by the life she lead. She loved bingo, ice cream and crocheting baby afghans for friends and family. She is preceded in death by her parents, husband and two sisters. Mrs. Magness is survived by her daughter, Linda Worthy and husband Jimmy of Carthage; son William Larry and wife Linda of Mansfield, Texas; grandsons, Jimmy Worthy, Jr. and wife Susan of South Port, Florida, William Magness and wife Kathy of Carthage, Robert Magness and wife Kathy of Cisco, Jay Benjamin of Murphy; three granddaughters, Terrie Howard and husband Bobby of Carthage, Monica Branham and husband Brian of Humble, Lisa Criswell and husband Rodney of Ft. Worth; thirteen great grandchildren and seven great, great grandchildren with one on the way; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be, Jimmy Worthy, Jr., William Magness, Jr., Jeremy Green, Samuel Branham, Bobby Howard and Michael Howard. Serving as honorary pallbearers will be Benjamin Green and Robert Magness. The family extends thanks to the entire staff of Winkler House for the many years of loving care, and the staff of Heartsway Hospice of Northeast Texas for meeting every need of our Mother and her family.
