Mr. J. C. Davis

Funeral services for Mr. J. C. Davis, 75, of Lake Murvaul, Texas will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, December 15, 2013 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Taylor and Rev. Thad Mills officiating. Burial will follow in the Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Saturday night at the funeral home. Mr. Davis died peacefully at his home in Lake Murvaul December 13, 2013. Mr. J. C. Davis was born February 1, 1938 in Gary, Panola County, Texas. He was the youngest of seven children born to the marriage of Gus Alvin and Myrtle Pike Davis. He was raised and schooled in Gary graduating with the class of 1956. J. C. graduated Panola College and attended Stephen F. Austin State University. He married Julia Ruth Vincent and they had two daughters. Mr. Davis retired from the Lance Cookie Company, later working for Texas Utilities and was the owner operator of the Davis Grocery. He spent his later years married to his love, Joyce Webb Johnson Davis. Together they enjoyed camping and traveling. J. C. was a member of the Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church. He is preceded in death by his parents, brother, Eldon Davis and sister, Madeline Lewis. Mr. Davis is survived by his loving wife, Joyce Johnson Davis of Lake Murvaul, daughters, Tammy Humber and husband Tim of Gary, Tina Eytcheson and husband Shawn of Kilgore, step children, Dr. Mid Johnson and wife Annette of Timpson, Mark Johnson of Gary, brothers, Gus Weldon Davis and wife Margaret of Dallas, Al Davis and wife Maxine of Longview, Bill Davis and wife Rene of Gary, sister, Theda Phillips of Gary, sister-in-law, Annie Grace Davis of Gary, grandchildren, Jason Humber and wife Angela of Longview, Lindsey Stephenson and husband Grant of Carthage, step grandchildren, Allisha Ross and husband Justin of KY, Terry Eytcheson of CA, great grandchildren, Jake Stephenson, Jaycee Humber and step great grandchild, Atticus Ross, numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends.
