Joseph Robert "Joe" Hull

Funeral services for Mr. Joe Hull, 73, of Carthage, Texas will be 10:00 a.m. Saturday, May 2, 2026, at First Baptist Church of Carthage with Dr. Allen Tilley and Rev. Jerry Anderson officiating. Burial with Masonic Rites will follow in Odd Fellows Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation will be 6-8:00 p.m. Friday night at Hawthorn Funeral Home. Mr. Joseph Robert “Joe” Hull was born on September 12, 1952, in Carthage, Texas. He passed this life at home on April 28, 2026, surrounded by the love of friends and family. Joe was the son of the late Robert Alonzo Hull and Dorothy Ella McLeod Hull. Joe was born and raised on the family farm in Panola County, a place that never left his heart. He was a graduate of Carthage High School, class of 1971, where he was voted “Mr. CHS”, proudly lettered two years in football, and was active in the FFA. He went on to graduate from the East Texas Police Academy in 1973. He then served as a Deputy Sheriff and continued to rise to Chief Deputy of the Panola County Sheriff’s Office. He retired from the Texas Railroad Commission after a 26-year-long career. After his retirement, Joe worked as a consultant in the oil and gas fields across multiple states. Joe enjoyed fly fishing in Colorado, bird hunting in Mexico, and often got lost in a good book. He was of strong Christian faith and a lifelong member of the First Baptist Church of Carthage. Joe was a Master Mason in the Carthage Masonic Lodge No. 521 AF&AM and member of the Sharon Shrine. Joe married his devoted wife, Theresa, on March 3rd, 1990. Together, they built a beautiful life anchored by their unwavering love and support for each other. He is survived by his loving children, Mechel Scarborough and husband Jeff; Christopher Hull and wife Amy; Nicholas Hull and wife Natalie; and “the little”, Aubrey Hull. His grandchildren, Liam, Lizzie, and Gabriel Hull. His sisters, who he loved deeply, twin sister Judy Brown and husband Gene, and baby sister, Kay Thompson. His aunt Betty McLeod, along with numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, lifelong friends, and the “road crew” that meant so much to him. Joe will be remembered for his steady presence, dedication to family, and the many lives he touched. Serving as pallbearers will be Phil Grimes, Sam Allison, Mike Pool, Pat Pool, Richard Anderson, and Judge Terry Bailey. Honorary pallbearers will be Matthew Pool, Rob Jolley, Ross Johnson, Robert Gentry, Randy Earley, Janet Thurman, Donette Duke Hogan and Amy Hudson Allison. The family gives a special thank you to Nikki and the Accent Home Health team, as well as Alysha and the Heartsway Hospice team. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to the Robert A. Hull Memorial Scholarship at Panola College or Shriners Children’s Hospital.
