Funeral services for Mrs. Monnie Mae Kelley, 85 of Carthage, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, December 22, 2010 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Dale Reed officiating. Burial will follow in the Longbranch Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Family visitation will be Tuesday, December 21, 2010 from 6–8:00 p.m. at the funeral home. Mrs. Kelley died Sunday, December 19, 2010 in Longview, Texas. Mrs. Monnie Mae Birmingham Kelley was born April 24, 1925 in Gary, Texas as the third of four children born to the marriage of Walter Luther and Carrie Lee McDaniels Birmingham. Mrs. Kelley was raised and schooled in Gary, Texas. Mae worked at Matthew’s Dress Shop and Ed’s Truck Stop. She also loved Christmas and enjoyed traveling. She was a longtime member of the Carthage Missionary Baptist Church. Mrs. Kelley is preceded in death by her parents, daughter, Barbara Riley; brothers, Edmond and Clifton Birmingham; and sisters, Correglia “Nig” Davenport, two great grandchildren and one great great grandchild. Mrs. Kelley is survived by her sons, Malcolm Sparks of Henderson, Eddie Sparks and wife Linda of Kilgore, Larry Sparks of Carthage; beloved friend and companion, Joe Miller of Carthage; sister-in-law, Fern Birmingham of Carthage; grandchildren, Lisa Gaspar of Gilmer, Billy Sparks and wife Stacy of Gilmer, Tina Tuel and husband Will of Gilmer, Angie Jorgensen and husband Richard of Dallas, Bobby Darrell Reid of Carthage, Shelley Goolsby and husband William of Carthage, Cal Sparks and wife Jennifer of Liberty City, Melissa Davis and husband Mitch of Carthage, Christy Campbell and husband Wes of Carthage, Michael Sparks of Carthage; 23 great grandchildren and five great great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews and a host of friends. The family would like to give a special thanks to all the dedicated caregivers over the years. The Family requests that memorials may be made to Carthage Missionary Baptist Church Serving as pallbearers are grandsons: Billy Sparks, Bobby Darrell Reid, Cal Sparks, Michael Sparks, Hunter Walden and Matt Davis. Honorary Pallbearers are Tony Dudley, Jeremy Gaspar, Trent Edney and Michael McClammy.
