Rev. Robert Duane "R.D." Heflin

Funeral services for Rev. Robert Duane Heflin (R. D.) will be 3:00 p.m. Sunday, December 22, 2013 at the Hawthorn Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Robert Easterling officiating. Burial will follow in the Gary Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be 2:00 p.m. Sunday, prior to the service. Rev. Heflin died December 14, 2013 in Costa Rica. Rev. Robert Duane “R.D.” Heflin was born near Hollis, Oklahoma April 25, 1930 to Robert Martin and Mattie James Heflin, who preceded him in death. Duane graduated from Ron High School, Hollis, Oklahoma, Jacksonville College, Jacksonville, Texas, East Texas Baptist College, Marshall, Texas and the BMA Theological Seminary, Jacksonville, Texas. He pastored churches in Jewett, Henderson, Amarillo, Plainview, Lubbock and Port Neches, all in Texas. He went, with his family, in 1962 to serve as missionary of the BMA of America and had served over 51 years there, where he was residing at his death. He is survived by his loving wife of sixty three years, Tommie Frances, five children: Robert Marshall and Debbie of Marshall, Texas, David Duane and Jenifer of Jacksonville, Texas, Charlotte Ann Hudler of Ragley, Louisiana, Darla Gayle Moore and Elton of Fairfield, Texas and Gena Kay Easterling and Robert of Nacogdoches, Texas. He is also survived by nine grandchildren: Robert Brian Heflin and Tangi, Dwight Hudler, Joel Heflin and Michelle, Christopher Hudler and Sara, Jonathan Heflin and Courtney, LCpl Philip Moore, Kathleen Easterling, Joshua Easterling and Elizabeth Heflin. He is also survived by six great grandchildren: Kayleigh Hudler, Haylea Heflin, Brooke Heflin, Kenzie Hudler, Hayden Hudler and Mason Hudler. He is survived by sisters, Maudie Meek of San Jose, Costa Rica and Jorene Woodman of Canyon, Texas and one brother James Orville Heflin and Frances of Hollis, Oklahoma and a host of relatives and friends, both in Costa Rica and the United States. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Brian Heflin, Joel Heflin, Jonathan Heflin, Dwight Hudler, Christopher Hudler, LCpl Philip Moore and Joshua Easterling.
