Mr. Scotty Holmes

Funeral services for Mr. Scott L. Holmes (Scotty), age 62, of Carthage, will be held at 2:00 pm Thursday, January 5, 2023, at Hawthorn Funeral Home with Dr. Allen Tilley officiating. Interment will follow at Corinth Cemetery under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. The family will receive friends from 6:00-8:00 pm Wednesday evening at the funeral home. Mr. Holmes died peacefully at his home in Carthage Sunday morning. Scott Holmes was born in Marshall, Texas on November 27, 1960, to S. L. and Dena Faye Alford Holmes. Mr. Holmes lived in Carthage all of his life and was of the Baptist Faith. He was a member of Pleasant Ridge Baptist Church near his home. Scotty, graduated with the Carthage High School class of 1979. During his time in high school, he enjoyed playing the saxophone with the Carthage High School band. He was employed with Carthage Furniture during high school. He received an associate degree from Panola College. He began working at United Gas Plant and shortly thereafter sustained a debilitating head injury from a car accident. He later worked several years for Blue Bell Creameries. Scotty enjoyed landscaping having a Greenhouse business for a while. Scott was a landlord and provided rental properties during the past 17 years. Mr. Holmes is preceded in death by his father S. L. Holmes, grandparents, Priestly and Esther Baugh Holmes, Buell E. and Bernice Nail Alford, Aunts and Uncles Norman Holmes, Charles and Betty Alford, Wilburn Spiller, Bill Lillibridge, and Cousin Ronnie Alford. Scotty is survived by his mother, Dena Holmes of Carthage, Aunts and Uncles Jo Ann Alford Herndon of Carthage, Glorianne Holmes Spiller of Carthage, Mary Esther Lillibridge of Alvin, and Johnny Lynn Holmes of Carthage; cousins, Joe Herndon, Carol Ann Herndon Cockerham, Jerry Alford, Andy Spiller, Christy Holmes Youngblood, David Holmes, Michael Lillibridge and Brian Lillibridge along with their families. Serving as pallbearers are Joe Herndon, David Holmes, Andy Spiller, Jerry Alford, Cody Cockerham, and Bob Rogers. Serving as honorary pallbearer is Johnny Holmes. The family suggests memorials be made to any Mental or Behavioral Health facilities or to please take time to write to your state representatives requesting that more facilities and services become available to those suffering from Mental illness.
