Mrs. Theda Faye Britton Phillips

Graveside funeral services for Mrs. Theda Faye Britton Phillips, 96, of Gary, Texas will be 2:00 p.m., Saturday, February 1, 2025 in the Mt. Bethel Cemetery with Rev. Steve Jackson officiating. Burial will follow under the direction of Hawthorn Funeral Home. Theda Faye Britton Phillips was born May 21, 1928 in Gary, Texas to the marriage of Gus Alvin and Myrtle Pike Davis and passed away, Wednesday, January 29, 2025 in Carthage. She was raised and schooled in Gary graduating from Gary High School. Mrs. Phillips met and married Cecil Britton on May 1, 1948 and together they celebrated 32 years of marriage and 2 daughters until his death on July 13, 1980. She later married Moody Phillips on January 3, 2009 and together they celebrated almost 4 years of marriage until his death on November 1, 2013. Theda worked many years for her father at Davis Grocery and then for her brother, J.C. Davis once he bought Davis Grocery. Theda began selling Avon after the death of her first husband and became known as the “Avon Lady” in Gary and surrounding areas. She won many Presidental awards acknowledging her dedication to the company and her sales. A member of Enterprise Missionary Baptist Church, Theda loved to travel, making trips thru the years with family and friends to Hawaii, Branson, Missouri and Nashville, Tennessee. Mrs. Phillips was preceded in death by her husbands and sister, Madeline Lewis and brothers, Eldon Davis, Weldon Davis, J.C. Davis and Elmo Davis. Mrs. Phillips is survived by her loving daughters, Regina Hayes and husband Ronnie, and Janis Ridgway; brother, Billy Wayne Davis and wife Renee; grandchildren, Sherri Fluellen and husband Daniel, Cherri Huron and husband Chance, Susan Hughes and husband Lee, Donald Ridgway and wife Darlene, Cory Ridgway, and Kyle Ridgway and wife Amy; numerous great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and a host of friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Donald Ridgway, Ethan Hughes, Kyle Ridgway, Daniel Fluellen, Chance Huron and Lee Hughes. Honorary pallbearer will be Billy Wayne Davis. The family would like to give a special thank you to the caregivers at Briarcliff and to Hospice Plus for the care and love provided – it will always be remembered.
